Summary

A massive predatory deep-sea creature encountered during the North Atlantic fragment retrieval mission. Possessed a bioluminescent lure capable of mesmerizing onlookers and was large enough to bite clean through the rear section of a Chinese submarine. Driven off when Sammy shot it directly in the eye with a beam turret.

Description

Enormous — significantly larger than a military submarine. Bioluminescent lure dangling from its head produces a hypnotic glow that can incapacitate observers (confirmed: Jens Hartmann was completely mesmerized for one full combat turn). Fast enough to charge a moving submarine at close range. Tough enough to survive a direct turret hit to the eye, though it fled in pain.

Known Abilities

  • Bioluminescent Hypnosis: The creature’s lure produces light that can fascinate and incapacitate targets. Jens was completely lost to the glow, unable to act. Effect may be Will-based or vision-based.
  • Devastating Bite: Bit through the rear section of a Chinese submarine in a single attack.
  • Speed: Charged the party’s sub at terrifying speed despite its enormous size.
  • Durability: Survived a direct beam turret shot to the eye. Fled rather than died.

Open Questions

  • Is it fragment-mutated (like the Fragment Bear) or a naturally occurring deep-sea predator?
  • Was it guarding the fragment, attracted to it, or coincidentally near it?
  • It fled wounded — will it heal? Could it regenerate like the Fragment Bear?
  • Are there more? Is this a unique specimen or a species?
  • The Chinese submarines were near it — were they aware of it? Were they trying to use it as cover?

Appearances

  • [Session 05 - Deep Sea Fragments and Desert Swarms](…/…/chapters/Chapter 1 - Living Bomb/Sessions/session-05-deep-sea-fragments-and-desert-swarms.html) — Encountered at the third fragment site in the North Atlantic; mesmerized Jens; destroyed a Chinese sub; driven off by Sammy’s turret shot to the eye

Relationships

  • Mutated by Meteor Fragments — Found near deep-sea meteor fragment site; likely enhanced by fragment proximity
  • Analogous to Terran Insectoid — Another example of fauna mutated or enhanced by meteor fragment proximity
