Adler Brotherhood Signet Ring Draft
jewelry (signet)
Current Holder: Anton_Adler (worn on his right hand)
Origin: Brotherhood of the Open Measure initiation regalia
Physical Description
A heavy silver signet on a wide band. The face bears the Brotherhood crest — a stylised “O M” inside a circle, abbreviation of Offene Maß (“Open Measure”). The ring has been sized for a man’s right hand. The silver has slight tarnish at the edges suggesting it was made within the last decade and has seen regular wear.
Function and Narrative Weight
- Identification: the ring is the party’s first physical confirmation that the Brotherhood_of_the_Open_Measure is a named, structured organisation with regalia — not merely a loose affiliation of cultists. Recovery is documentary proof of Adler’s membership.
- Correspondence seals: signet rings were still in use in 1814 for sealing letters. Any of Herzfeld’s sealed correspondence that uses this crest will match Adler’s ring, confirming it was Adler who sent the letters. This is useful for authenticating recovered correspondence.
- Cult identification at distance: future PCs or NPCs wearing this crest (or a similar one with the same “OM”) are Brotherhood. The crest is a recognition signal. This may be a clue that resurfaces in later chapters — other cells may wear analogous signets with their own local variations.
Recovery
- Branch 1 (Adler killed): Ring on Adler’s body. Available immediately.
- Branch 2 (Adler captured): Ring on Adler’s hand. Confiscated during interrogation.
- Branch 3 (Adler escapes): Ring is not recovered in Chapter 3.
Relationships
