Details

The boards were recovered from the ruins of the city discovered on Terra during the team’s first expedition through the portal. They are clearly technological in nature — circuit-board analogues of some kind — but their design language is entirely alien. The civilisation that built them was three-limbed, and their engineering conventions reflect a morphology and worldview with no human parallel.

Guy LeFleur has identified what he suspects are data storage components. His working theory is that the boards may hold recorded information: logs, sensor data, or even visual records from before or during whatever catastrophe destroyed the city. If he’s right, the boards could be the single most informative window into what happened on Terra.

The obstacle is the technology gap. These components predate human contact with Terra, operate on unknown principles, and were designed by a species that no longer exists. Reading them will require bridging that gap — a significant research and engineering challenge.

Custodial ambiguity: Voss Dynamics has official possession of recovered Terra artifacts. Whether Guy’s personal research constitutes unauthorised use of company assets, or is quietly tolerated, has not been resolved.

Game Notes: Interpreting the boards is a long-term research project. GM should set milestones — partial decryption, hardware interface construction, first data fragment — rather than a single roll.
