Russian Wilderness (Fragment Site)
Summary
A dense, remote stretch of Russian forest where a meteor fragment from the Second Meteor Event made impact. The site became the most costly location of the Greenland-Russia fragment recovery arc. The fragment’s radiation mutated a local bear into the Fragment Bear — a roughly 35-foot-tall creature that killed Andrews, corroded the combat suits of Thompson and an unidentified Russian operative, and dominated a large area of the forest before the PC team brought it down.
Major Jenkins’ team was deployed here ahead of the PCs and took serious casualties before the PCs parachuted in to assist. The team also recovered a Russian-flagged corroded suit at the site — physical evidence of a Russian power suit program operating in parallel with Voss Dynamics, and of Russian military interest in the meteor fragments.
The fragment landing site was located near a cave that Russian military forces had been using for shelter, complicating the post-combat situation.
Description
Tall trees, dense canopy, hills, valleys, and scattered boulders. Overcast twilight conditions throughout — the sky a flat grey lid that bleeds the colour out of the forest floor. The terrain swallows light and sound; visibility is limited and orientation is difficult. Elevation changes are significant enough to create natural cover and chokepoints.
The forest floor near the impact site shows signs of trauma: scorched earth, displaced rock, and the kind of silence that follows something catastrophic. The Fragment Bear’s movements left a trail of destruction through the treeline — snapped trunks, churned ground, and the remnants of the suits it corroded.
The cave entrance is set into a hillside roughly within striking distance of the fragment crater, large enough to shelter a small military unit with equipment.
Security & Access
Remote and officially outside any sanctioned operational zone. The presence of Russian military forces — armed, equipped, and apparently aware of the fragments — makes this site actively hostile even after the Fragment Bear was neutralised. No formal perimeter; the terrain itself is the primary barrier.
The corroded Russian suit suggests a parallel programme with significant resources and awareness of the Second Meteor Event.
