Dr Ambrose Hargreaves
Physical Description
Lean frame, weathered face, sharp blue-grey eyes that are always assessing. Dark, greying hair cut short, neatly trimmed beard. Something absent-minded in the way he adjusts his cuffs or rubs at his temple. Late fifties.
Background
Dr. Ambrose Hargreaves served as a surgeon aboard Royal Navy vessels during the wars — a man who has mended both bodies and spirits with little more than a steady hand, a flask of laudanum, and sheer will. Now settled in Portsmouth, he takes private patients: sailors, travellers, and the occasional unfortunate in need of his expertise. His manner is brusque but not unkind — efficiency is his language, unnecessary sentiment wastes time. He has little patience for social pretensions but respects those who endure hardship with quiet fortitude. Beneath his reserved exterior, a man who has seen too much suffering to turn away someone truly in need.
