Overview

Osney Grange is a sleepy village in the chalk hills of Hampshire, about 40 miles north-west of Brighton and 20 miles east of Winchester. Population around 100 — hard not to know everyone’s comings and goings.

Key Locations

  • The Vicarage — Modest two-storey stone building adjacent to the church, built 1753. Ivy-covered, with a blooming but neglected garden. Home of Rev_Henry_Mortimer and Miss_Eleanor_Mortimer. Servants: Mrs. Howard (cook), Mrs. Philips (housekeeper, lives in), Master Croft (footman). Hidden attic accessible through the linen closet; chimney passage connecting attic to cellar.
  • Church of St. Sithney — Small Norman church with a square tower and well-maintained graveyard. Charlotte Mortimer’s grave is at the west end, overlooked by the vicarage. The crypt beneath the vestry contained desecrated bodies — limbs removed, a gore-caked saw left behind. St. Sithney is the patron saint of rabid dogs.
  • The Royal Oak — Coaching inn run by Old_Jenkins. Half-timbered building with horse brasses, livestock paintings, and rush-covered floors. Private rooms for the gentry.
  • The Haberdashers — Well-stocked village shop where Ms_Amelia_Cooper and Ms_Hannah_Shibden hold court and gather gossip.

Campaign History

  • Chapter 0.1 — Curate & Curability: Marina_Garrick visited Osney Grange as a guest of the Mortimers, September 1812. The investigation ended in horror — Eleanor Mortimer died, Dr. Beamish and Reverend Henry Mortimer were consumed by a ghoul, and Marina fled wounded in the curate’s stolen coach. She was shot in the shoulder and suffered temporary madness. This trauma drove her to Portsmouth and into the hands of Lady_Honoria_Lyndhurst and the Order_of_St_Aelfric. Squire Goodwin survived.
