Background

Squire Anthony Goodwin is the county magistrate for Hampshire and Lord of the Manor of Osney Grange. He is Charlotte Mortimer’s uncle on her mother’s side and genuinely believes his niece is dead. He speaks of her fondly and with visible grief. Kind and paternal toward Henry and Eleanor, he refuses to entertain any suggestion of impropriety on Henry’s part. He owns a carriage that he loans to the vicar from time to time.
