Imogen Bellamy
Overview
Imogen Bellamy is a talented Order field agent and skilled linguist with expertise in musical theory, coded texts, and esoteric harmonics. Posted to the Royal Academy of Music under the false identity of Miss Isabel Grey, she was assigned to monitor the Orphean Society’s vocal conditioning program and identify recruitment patterns. Her curiosity and brilliance made her an excellent investigator—but also her fatal weakness.
Captured during a “screening” for advanced students approximately ten days before the campaign begins, she is now held in the Catacoustic Chamber, where she is subjected to progressive sonic conditioning designed to break her mind and reshape her vocal capacity for ritual purposes.
Description
A red-haired woman of medium height with expressive, intelligent eyes that once sparkled with humor and insight. Her complexion is fair, her hands often ink-stained from constant note-taking. She favors practical dress and carries herself with confident bearing—though that confidence has cracked under weeks of sensory isolation and harmonic torture.
Since captivity, her appearance has deteriorated: her eyes are strained and distant, her movements jerky and uncertain. She trembles without obvious cause. Her hair, once lustrous, is matted and unkempt. She sometimes breaks into involuntary minor-key humming or clutches her throat in terror at unexpected sounds.
Personality & Traits (Pre-Captivity)
- Sharp-witted and irreverent, with a dry sense of humor
- Deeply curious and intellectually restless; asks questions others fear to ask
- Sensitive to harmonic pattern and linguistic structure
- Compassionate beneath her sarcasm; protective of vulnerable people
Current Mental State
- Lucid but fragile; oscillates between manic insight and withdrawn silence
- Hears residual echoes of the chant even when awake; hallucinations increasing
- Suffers from severe dissociation; has begun to sing fragments of the Canticle involuntarily
- Deeply traumatized but not yet broken; still capable of field work if rescued and briefly recovered

Equipment
- Ink-stained cipher notebook (destroyed or hidden by investigators if recovered from her lodgings)
- Order signet ring (hidden in cracked mirror frame in her Bloomsbury flat)
- Small musical hand-worn leather folio with vocal exercises
Roleplaying Hooks (If Rescued)
- Will bond immediately with investigators who engage her in language, music, or poetry
- May still hear residual chanting and become distressed at harmonic patterns
- Becomes dangerously intrigued by the Canticle’s structure; may suggest examining it “just to understand”—a sign of Stockholm syndrome beginning
- If given time to recover, transforms back into brilliant field agent; her insights into cult operations are invaluable
- Feels profound guilt over Rooke’s continued captivity; may volunteer for dangerous rescue operations
- May request to participate in disrupting the Stonehenge ritual despite her weakened state
Mission Intelligence She Possesses
If rescued and interrogated:
- Layout of the Orphean Society’s second and third floors (where she was held before transfer)
- Names and descriptions of at least six cultists
- Information about the “Ladies Circle” recruitment method
- Partial understanding of the Canticle’s harmonic structure and its connection to Yog-Sothoth
- The fact that Rooke is alive (but transported to Kensington Stables four days before rescue)
- Confirmation that conditioning sessions cause permanent psychological damage; some previous victims never recovered mental function
Campaign History
- Chapter 1 (June 1814): Bellamy infiltrated the Orphean Society under the cover identity Isabel Grey, posing as a scholarship student at the Royal_Academy_of_Music. She was captured and held in the sub-basement cells beneath the Society building. Rescued by the investigators during their raid on the Orphean Society — the PCs took out two guards (Walter_Baines and Nathan_Pryce) on their way in and freed her from her cell. Father Jeremiah Creel, the mad priest in the adjacent cell, was found but deliberately left behind. Bellamy was turned over to the Order_of_St_Aelfric and taken to Hartwell_House for treatment and recovery.
Relationship to Campaign
Bellamy is a crucial rescue objective and a major NPC ally for the rest of the campaign. Her survival:
- Provides detailed intelligence on the Orphean Society’s operations
- Gives the investigators a Mythos-literate ally
- Enables faster progress through Vienna chapter (where her linguistic skills become essential)
- Creates emotional stakes: players will feel personally invested in protecting her from further harm
Post-Rescue Availability
Once rescued, Bellamy can:
- Provide direct testimony about Hume and Danforth’s methods
- Translate harmonic notation and Senzar glyphs
- Serve as a field asset in future investigations
- Offer psychological insight into cult recruitment psychology
Her trauma will fade gradually with rest and support, but may manifest during high-stress situations or encounters with harmonic phenomena.
